Gastrointestinal Disease

Digestive disorders are not solely defined by the results obtained from tests and imaging diagnostics; these are just one aspect of the problem. In our clinic, regardless of whether it's traditional Kampo herbal medicine treatment or not, we prioritize understanding where the issue is located and its function, using clues such as the timing, color, smell of diagnoses, vomiting, diarrhea, and other aspects, rather than merely suppressing symptoms. Using immunosuppressants or anti-emetic/anti-diarrheal drugs to suppress symptoms while leaving the underlying issues untreated can damage the gastrointestinal mucosa and become a source of inflammation, leading to more serious conditions such as IBD or lymphatic dilation syndrome. Our goal is not just to suppress inflammation but to improve the underlying causes of inflammation. Traditional Kampo herbal medicine treatment, like its effectiveness in controlling inflammatory conditions such as IBD, also excels in regulating gastrointestinal function.

2019/02/15 post on Facebook
Minila-chan, undergoing treatment for Protein-Losing Enteropathy (IBD). When we started traditional Kampo herbal medicine treatment and stopped steroids, there was a rebound effect with skin inflammation, but it quickly settled down with adjustments to the herbal medicine. Since then, she has been progressing smoothly without steroids, and we are gradually reducing the herbal medicine dosage."

Rizu-chan
- Treatment for Recurring Chronic Diarrhea2019/01/12 post on Facebook
Rizu-chan suffered from severe diarrhea that persisted for about 10 days every month, and it couldn't be controlled with antibiotics or anti-diarrheal medications. As a result, we initiated traditional Kampo herbal medicine.
Standard Poodles often have weaker lower backs, and many of them tend to experience constipation or difficulty passing stools. Rizu-chan, too, was prone to constipation, and it seemed to cause heat buildup and inflammation in her body.
By treating to dispel the excess heat and adjusting the nervous system by Kampo herbal medicine, she has not experienced diarrhea in the past six months since starting herbal medicine treatment. Not only has the diarrhea ceased, but she has also become more active, and she's recently gained muscle mass.
A one-size-fits-all approach to stopping diarrhea, no matter how good the medication, doesn't address the root cause. This may eventually lead to the only treatment options being steroids or immune suppression. It's important to remember that there are many underlying causes that cannot be explained solely through a Western medical micro-level perspective.
